KSU or PAAU ? Bill seeking name-change passes second reading

The renaming of Kogi State University after  the Late Prince Abubakar Audu, the first Executive Governor of the state, is in view as the Bill for a Law to Repeal and re-enact the law to establish the institution has passed its second reading in the State House of Assembly.

While leading the debate, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Matthew Kolawole said among other contents of the Bill, is the renaming of the institution to Prince Abubakar Audu University.

Hon. Haruna Idoko Musa of Idah State Constituency commended the Philosophy of the Bill and enjoined the members to see the need of reviewing the University law as a welcome development in honour of the Late Prince Abubakar Audu, who established it.

Hon. Rabiu Momoh Alfa of Ankpa II Constituency also supported the motion in its entirety.

According to Hon. Sunday Shigaba of Bassa Constituency, the presentation of the Bill is timely and so drummed support for the reenactment of the law to establish the university.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, while appreciating the contribution of members who overwhelmingly supported the Bill, referred it to the Committees on Education and Judiciary to report back to the House in two weeks.
